Produced by Giorgio Moroder, 'I Feel Love' used a fully synthesized backing track — the first major pop hit built entirely on electronic sequences. Brian Eno played it for David Bowie saying 'this is the sound of the future.'
Musical Significance
The founding document of electronic dance music, techno, house, and virtually every synthesizer-based genre that followed. Moroder's sequenced arpeggios directly created the vocabulary of club music for the next 40 years.
Historical Context
Released in 1977, the same year Star Wars and the Apple II arrived. Technology was reshaping every cultural domain simultaneously. Moroder was pioneering electronic music while punk was declaring technology the enemy.
